Zarvos' current ensemble combines music and musicians from such diverse backgrounds as Jazz, Brazilian Folk and Classical music in a style sometimes referred to as 'World Chamber Music'.

The Group, which consists of Marcelo Zarvos on piano, Peter Epstein on saxophone, Dorothy Lawson on cello, Joyce Hamman on violin and Mauro Refosco on percussion, has appeared at the Texaco Jazz Festival, AT&T Latino Arts Festival, Americas Society, Greenwich House and was recently featured on a profile piece done by CNN.

Marcelo Zarvos - piano

Brazilian pianist and composer Marcelo Zarvos started performing professionally at age thirteen and has written for the Concert Stage, Film, Television and Dance. He released three critically acclaimed albums for MA Recording, "DUALISM", "MUSIC JOURNAL" and "LABYRINTHS", which landed a TOP 10 JAZZ CD of 1999 on CDNOW. He has appeared at the Knitting Factory, Americas Society, New Jersey Center for Performing Arts, Merkin Hall and New York Texaco Jazz Festival. He has collaborated as arranger and pianist with the Paul Winter Consort and appeared as a guest conductor with Sadao Watanabe and Tokyo Symphony Chamber Orchestra. His work has been featured on CNN, WKCR, NPR and CBC.

Peter Epstein - saxophone

Originally from the pacific Northwest, saxophonist Peter Epstein has been collaborating with Marcelo Zarvos and Group for ten years and has appeared and/or recorded with numerous artists such as Oregon's bassist Glen Moore; pianist Michael Cain, with whom he recorded an album for ECM Records; Brad Shepik and the Commuters; Jerry Granelli; Bobby Previtte and Ralph Alessi's "Modular Theater" featuring Cellist Hank Roberts . In addition he has released three solo albums of his own music for MA Recordings: "Staring at the Sun", "The Invisible" and "Solus".

Dorothy Lawson - cello

Cellist Dorothy Lawson comes from the world of classical orchestral and chamber music, with a doctorate from Juilliard, a career in Vienna, and performing experiences with such well-known musical organizations as the New York Philharmonic, the American Symphony and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. In contrast, she performs regularly with modern dance companies such as Mikhail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Dance Project, as well as new music groups such as the Bang-On-A-Can All-Stars. Dorothy is a founding member of New York's premier new music string quartet Ethel.

Joyce Hammann - violin

Joyce Hammann enjoys a varied performing career from contemporary music to Broadway musicals to the concert stage. Ms. Hammann is currently first violinist of the Sirius String Quartet and serves as Concertmaster of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera. She has collaborated with such artists as Tony Bennet, Liza Minelli, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Cole, and Lauryn Hill. Her recent recordings include String Quartets by John Zorn, Ted Nash's Double Quartet, Rhyme and Reason, Wagner and Venezia with pianist Uri Cain, and Europa by John Tennyson. Ms. Hammann has appeared as soloist with many orchestras including the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra, the Juilliard Symphony, the Mozart Festival Orchestra and the Scandia Symphony performing the American premieres of two concerti.

Mauro Refosco - percussion

Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco has performed professionally and/or recorded with such artists as David Byrne, Philip Glass, John Lurie and the Lounge Lizards, Vinicius Cantuaria and Don Byron, as well as with traditional Brazilian musical groups since his childhood. In addition to being an expert in South American and Middle Eastern percussion instruments, Mr. Refosco is a also a highly skilled classical mallet player, with a Degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
